A FREE charming, southern cozy you’re going to LOVE!

I’m super excited for us to escape to the magical cozy mystery series in Whispering Falls, Kentucky! Do you LOVE the Hallmark Channel’s Good Witch? This series is exactly that…only this series was published before the Good Witch!

Bubble… Bubble… June Heal is excited to be going on an island honeymoon where she not only will she get away for some much needed rest away from her magical powers that she’d promised Oscar she’d leave home, but where she will get away from her sassy talking crystal ball, Madame Torres, and her pesky familiar, Mr. Prince Charming.

Cures and trouble… The secluded island is a perfect getaway for the charming honeymooners, especially since the only other vacationers are a wedding group. June Love’s a good romantic wedding and this one is on the beach.

Magic stirs…June is embracing her old mortal self until the groom from the wedding party washes up on the beach …

MURDERED!And troubles double… June is unable to keep her promise to Oscar about not using magic for their weekend island getaway and finds herself square in the middle of the investigation. Suddenly, June wishes that her pesky familiars were there to help and realizes that there really is no place like home.

Happy release day for Wildlife, Warrants, & Weapons!

Southern Hospitality with a Smidgen of Homicide

It creams my corn to think I’ve been accused of murder.

I’m a handyman in the Daniel Boone National Park. My main employer is Mae West at the Happy Trails Campground.
When I got a phone call to take down some trees on this guy’s property for a side hustle, I jumped at the chance. That’s one of the biggest money making jobs around these parts.
Unfortunately I got hauled off to jail after I was accused of being part of an illegal logging crew. Simple enough, I gave Sheriff Hank Sharp the name of the man who hired me, only he was found murdered by one of my tools.
Not only am I accused of illegal logging, now I’m the number one suspect in this man’s murder.
It just creams my corn to be accused of murder.
There’s only one person I trust to get me out of this mess and that’s Maybelline West.
I’m sure she, along with her nosy friends, the Laundry Club Ladies, will snoop around to help clear my name.

Voice Memo: Post Mortem

Hey y’all!!! So every morning I walk about 45 minutes. It’s a perfect time for me to think about what I’m going to be writing that day.
Back up….
Every single day I write. Well..not Sunday. I’m not a writer who plots out everything. When I sit down to start a new mystery novel, I will know who was killed, why and by whom. From there I pretty much sit down with the main points and start to write.
When I’m finished writing for the day, I will put a page break into my document and start a few lines for the next day so I know exactly where I’m starting. Some authors go back and have to reread what they wrote the day before or they go back and edit. There’s nothing wrong with that because that’s their process.
I don’t. I like to keep going and finish the book before I go back to revisit all of it when I’m finished writing the entire thing.
So the audio attached is one particular morning when I was walking and I knew where the writing day was going to start once I sat down at the computer.
Sometimes on my walks, the scenes I need to write for the day begin to tell the story in my head. I’m a big believer that when something comes to me, that I have to either write it down or tape record it because if I don’t, my superstition is that it will float away from me and into another writer’s head.
Today I thought I’d share one of those morning audio recordings with you. Honestly, it’s hard to follow and hard to listen to me breathing as I climb all the hills I’m walking, but I thought it would be fun for y’all to step inside of my head for a little bit…it’s a strange one.
This particular voice memo is from Post Mortem and an interaction with Revonda Gail and Bernadette.
Enjoy!

Mini-Writer Retreat

Oh my! Look at these two! A few weeks ago my friend had gone to visit her brand new grandbaby  and I am dog sitting!

Rowena was with Eddy at my sister’s and she was in hog heaven because I catch Eddy slipping her treats when my back is turned.

Before I had to be there for the week, I had made a plan. WRITER RETREAT!

I’m made the most of my time away from my sister’s house, cooking, and her dogs to use this time at my friend’s house as a writing retreat.

What exactly does that mean? Don’t I write all the time anyways?

I do! But I also have to do things like y’all daily. I cook every meal. I do all the grocery shopping. I do our laundry. I clean our little room. I take care of my sister’s dogs daily.

I write in the mornings and I do business things in the afternoon before I start cooking and then the night gets away from me.

On my retreat,  I was  able to get up, take my friend’s pups for a walk, sit down with my coffee and computer open while I’m sipping coffee on her screen porch (scream!!!!) and wrote until my pee-picking heart was content!

I got so much done. Things I’d been wanting to do but not had a chunk of time to get it all done or written. So I’m saying this was a great getaway and it was nice to be around pups.

Do you ever take a trip to just get away?
